Free tickets to celebrate International Jazz Day at Sugnall Walled Garden
The International Jazz Day is being celebrated on 30th April (Saturday), as designated by UNESCO in 2011. Sugnall Walled Garden, which is between Eccleshall and Stone, is celebrating the International Jazz Day on Saturday, by hosting a free event. It will feature performances from various bands at the venue in Sugnall, Eccleshall, Staffordshire. They include the famous trumpet player Ray Butcher, The Firewalkers and After Dark Fonksters. This place is one amongst the 22 venues across the country that will take part in the celebrations, before Sugnall stages for the first time its Jazz & Blues festival in July.
Herbie Hancock, the renowned pianist and composer, serving as a UNESCO ambassador, said that Jazz is really about human experience. Sugnall Walled Garden’s Andrew Wilson said they are proud to take part, as International Jazz Day in its 5th year has planned celebrations in about all the 196 member states of the UN. The event is free to attend but the free tickets have to be booked in advance. For more details call up Andrew on phone- 01785-850820. Or go to website- sugnallwalledgarden.co.uk.
Family event in Kent, Rochester Sweeps Festival
The Rochester Sweeps Festival is a day when Victorian sweeps and chimney boys have some fun. This annual celebration now falls on the May Bank Holiday weekend, starting on 30th April (Saturday) to finish on 2nd May, Monday. There’s a morning dance at sunrise, but visitors on 30th April can come to the general festivities for the 10:45am start time, at the forecourt of Guildhall Museum. More than a thousand dancers will perform in what is the world’s biggest gathering of English morris dancing sides, over the three days.
The festival, revived in 1980, will have a procession of chimney sweeps, singing and dancing through the streets of Rochester to raise money for unpaid months ahead. But Medway Council funds this folk festival, the first in the 2016 county calendar. There’ll be music from around the world and colourful free entertainment over 3 days. Rochester Castle Garden hosts the main stage. Attractions here include stalls for food, drink, artisans, folk art, children’s fun fair and a psychic event. Avail the real ale and licensed bars. Rochester High Street and the castle moat will host an early morning ceremony. Witness the Jack-in-the-Green awakening ceremony at Kids Coty, Blue Bell, on 1st May, Sunday, at 5:32am.
There will be lots of music playing at Rochester, alongside venues hosting real ale festival. Over 40 bands and singers will be on stage over the weekend for the Medway Hospital Radio programme. On Saturday the Huguenot Museum will stage a free sit-in concert. The Rochester Sweeps Festival runs from 10:45am, Saturday (30 April) to 2:30pm on Bank Holiday Monday and the free event finishes with the festival procession sweeping through from Star Hill to the Castle Gardens.
