The Powys County Council has announced that Llandrindod Wells has become the first Welsh town to offer an open access Wi-Fi service. The Wi-Fi service was launched last month at the Metropole Hotel, thanks to the funding coming from the Tesco 106 development fund and through the council’s regeneration grant. The Wi-Fi system was installed by the Welsh company, Telemat, connecting several locations across the town, including the public transport interchange. Visitors to and residents of Llandrindod Wells can access the free Wi-Fi service just by logging onto a system through a portal page hosted on the new website of the town.
Cabinet member for regeneration at Powys County Council, Councillor Avril York, said she was delighted that Llandrindod Wells has become the first town in Wales to offer residents and visitors a free open Wi-Fi access system. She pointed out that WiFi access is something people expect and the system will benefit them as it will give access at places where gatherings and events take place in the town. Not only can the town showcase it, but it can be a great tool to inform of the town’s businesses in future, the councillor added.
