This March will see the set up of The Cotswold Decorative Antiques & Art Fair at the Westonbirt School, Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Free festival of Africa Oye coming back to Sefton Park
Africa Oye is in its 24th year and the biggest free festival of music and culture from Africa and the Diaspora, will be held again at the Sefton Park in South Liverpool. The organisers have announced the first 3 acts of a line-up of globally acclaimed acts for the event. Last year, the family friendly city event attracted a record 80,000 crowd to the 2-day event.
The first three events revealed include Mbongwana Star, D R Congo’s genre-bending performers, Pat Thomas and Kwashibu Area Band, and the Ifa Band, the up-coming Tanzanian street rumba group. Throughout the festival weekend the main stage will feature ‘Oye Village’. Featured here will be DJs and traders, many foods from all over the world, with dance classes and workshops in the Active Zone. Sefton Park will be abuzz with kids’ entertainment too.
Paul Duhaney, the artistic director, is excited by this year’s particularly diverse line-up of acts for the festival. They had a challenge to filter the record number of applications, to make the final line-up, he added. This year, Africa Oye will be held on 18th and 19th June. Entry is free.
