The music streaming service Spotify is offering a free Google Chromecast dongle for subscribers of Spotify Premium. Spotify has many users on its ad-infused free service. The company is keen to convert and pull in more customers to sigh up to its premium option. It wants more users as loyal paying customers.

Google’s Chromecast is a small HDMI dongle that can be plugged into a TV and allows a big range of content to be streamed from your smartphone, tablet or laptop. It effectively allows to convert a normal TV into an internet-connected ‘smart TV’. Chromecast has integration of many third-party apps, including Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Now TV, BBC iPlayer and more. The device also supports Facebook and Flickr.

Even when the data speeds are low, the small device uses a powerful WiFi antenna (supports 5GHz wireless networks) to stream video content consistently. Developers have put in a new software feature called Fast Play that can preload content, which Google says reduces time to load content by 80%.

To get the free offer deal, which is for a limited period, you have to pay 3-months charges upfront (£29.97). It is available to only new customers and to those who have not already redeemed the free monthly trial of Spotify.
