NHS Borders will be holding a free session, for the awareness of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) on 14th January, Thursday, in Galashiels, at the Galashiels Library, from %:30pm to 6:30pm. James Black and Sinead Murray of the NHS Border Mental Heath Service who are Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology will run the 1-hour session to raise awareness on OCD, provide strategies and tips to effectively cope with it.
Jamie Black said that men and women of any age or backgrounds can get affected by the disorder. The symptoms can range from mild to severe. For some, it can be so severe as to take over their life. People affected by OCD may not ask help as they can feel embarrassed.
The session is not therapy. Participants will not be asked personal circumstances, or to talk about themselves. Those feeling the need of one-to-one support are encouraged to contact their GP. Available at the classes will be self-help DVDS and leaflets and contacts of support groups. These are free sessions for everyone, but to attend it, booking is essential.
