December 12th, 2015 by Sandy

A historic free event, a Dickensian-themed Christmas Fair, is set to be held on 10th December, Thursday, in Accrington, Lancashire. The free event, to be hosted on Warner Street, will transform the venue into Victorian Christmas night. The Mayor Coun Marlene Haworth will open the event at 5:00pm with Mayoress Dorothy Berry. The Christmas fair has been organised with cooperation from the council, by the businesses on Warner Street.

The free event includes Victorian fairground riders, musicians, market stalls, fire dancing fairy and street entertainers. At a marquee in St. James Church, children’s traditional games will be held from 5pm to 6pm. A guided history tour of Warren Street will start at 6:30pm. From the top of Warner Street, the Pipe Band of Accrington will start leading a beautiful candlelight procession at 7:30pm. It will end at St. James Churchyard, with a carol service and nativity play outdoors.

People joining the procession are requested to dress up in period costume by the organisers. “Queen Victoria” will be at the Copper Kettle restaurant the whole evening. Visitors can have tea with “her majesty”. The owner of New Freedom Sanctuary shop and organiser of the free event, Kathryn Ann Furey, said they all loved the idea as the street is Georgian and that Christmas would have been like that.
