Free online creative courses by Creative Skillset
Here is a chance to join online creative courses for free. Commissioned by Creative Skillset, the courses have already seen 100,000 sign up for the portfolios of courses. The courses are developed in collaboration with leading universities and some of the leading players from the creative industries and they are member of the Creative Industries Council.
Those in creative practice can join, or sign-up, for courses on photography, animation, sustainable fashion, visual effects, screen-writing and film-making. Visit FutureLearn online and look up the Creative Skilllset partner web-page to join a running course or one starting soon. The courses are developed with partnership of industry stalwarts like D&AD, Production Guild of Great Britain and Ethical Fashion Forum, and also with leading UK universities, such as Norwich University of Arts, Universities of East Anglia and the National Film & Television School.
The CEO, Seetha Kumar, of Creative Skillset said they were learning from the take up and completion on MOOC’s. He was happy to see a high rate of registration on these creative courses, as it is their first time in free courses in online learning. Age of Algorithms from London Gepmetry and Collabology run by University of the Arts London are other courses Creative Skillset has commissioned. More details on the website- creativeskillset.org.
First ‘Commune’ free event at the Barbican
Commune is a free event created by five graduates from three Community Interest Companies, who have collaborated to bring this event that promotes enterprise, graduate retention and culture, to Plymouth. The free event is to be held on 12th and 13th December, at the St. Saviours Church Hal, Lambhay Hill, The Barbican. The 2-day event falling on Saturday and Sunday, will be held from 11:00am to 7:00pm.
The first Commune event is with the principle of creating jobs in Plymouth and making the city more attractive to work and live. This is to be family-friendly event as a Christmas exhibition and market. It will host artwork from a range of media. The event will exhibit cakes from MAKE, have stalls by craft-makers, artists, musicians and even have letter-press machine made Christmas cards.
Commune is being organised by Bread & Roses CIC, St. Saviours CIC and Upgrad CIC. It is also a chance for socialising and networking, to bridge the gap between the wider community and with higher education. The Plymouth University Print Society will also be holding a print making workshop, at this unique free event this Christmas season.
