Free events at Jorvik Viking Festival
The 100-day countdown of the Jorvik Viking Festival for 2016 has started. 2016 marks one thousand years of the Viking Canute taking the English throne. Also known as Cnut, he united the nation and created a North Sea empire. Spread over England, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, his rule lasted for 50 years, after which the throne was seized by William the Conqueror.
In the lead up to the grand finale of the celebration on 20th February (2016), there will be many events and a large number of free events too in York. Historians, authors, re-enactors and storytellers will be presenting to the public about Cnut, during the 100 day event, with a visual celebration for the grand finale, at the heart of the city. Free ticket giveaway for Dumbarton Castle and other Scottish sites
Thousand of free tickets are up for grabs for the public to visit some 35 heritage attractions across Scotland. Pre-registration online is required to avail the free tickets and earlier the better. Historic Environment Scotland is offering free tickets on St. Andrews Day to the Dumbarton Castle. The registration has opened from 10th November and goes on till 27th November (Friday), for free entry to the attractions all over Scotland. Applications for registration is for a maximum of 2 adults and for 3 family tickets. One family ticket admits up to 2 adults and 3 children. Visitors are not restricted to apply for tickets to any number of the participating attractions.
The Director of Commercial and Tourism for Historic Environment Scotland, Stephan Duncan, said the Ticket Giveaway weekend offers the public a free opportunity to explore some of the best heritage sites, iconic palaces, castles and abbeys. The weekend long event is part of the St. Andrew’s Day celebrations of Scotland and the ticket giveaways has always proved extremely popular, he added.
