The annual event of switching on in Salisbury of the city’s Christmas lights, will be held on 19th November (Thursday). The free event this year has been changed, as the traditional fireworks will be replaced with a high-tech video display, at the Market Place venue. The free event marks the commencement of the city’s late night festive shopping season. It is organised by the Salisbury City Council. As the Guildhall roof is undergoing renovation work currently, the council made the decision to replace the fireworks, earlier this year.
The event will feature this year performances from Starcast Performing Arts School, from Break Cover, the cover band and the Indie/Aternative Rock mix from Faux. A guest appearance of Father Christmas will be accompanied by Councillor Andrew Roberts, the Mayor of Salisbury, and the Very reverend June Osborne will bless in the evening. There will be snow machines around the square to add to the festivity of the free event and the countdown actually starts at 7:00pm for the switching on of the lights. This will be followed by the stage pyrotechnics and light projection show.
