A free event that is Nottingham’s biggest celebration of Diwali, is planned to be held this month, on 14th November, at Highfield Park, starting from 4:00pm and running till 8:00pm. The free event to be celebrated on a Saturday, is supported by the Nottingham Asian Arts Council with Lakeside Arts Centre, the Walk the Plank Productions and New Art Exchange. The event will feature a lantern parade and to learn the story behind the Indian festival, there will be an ‘interactive journey’. There will also be contemporary dance. Some of the local schools have got involved in the production of the shows, which includes a set of floating lotus flowers that are illuminated. The arts co-ordinator for the NAAC, Durgesh Parmar, said the free event was a great opportunity for the whole community to get involved with the tradition of Diwali celebrations, enjoying the great food, music and culture being offered.
