Under the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme, some 1,100 homes and businesses in Kilmacolm will join the 5,500 premises in Inverclyde to get access to faster fibre broadband. Other areas benefiting from the rollout include, Inverkip, Gourock, Greenock and Port Glasgow, and more to be included in coming months, as work of BT Openreach continues.
A free event, a special drop-in session, will be held on 21st October, Wednesday, at The Cargill Centre, Lochwinnoch Road, Kilmacolm, from 10am to 2pm, to showcase the benefits of high-speed broadband service. Anyone interested to find out the benefits of fibre broadband are welcome to attend the free event. Members of the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband Programme will be at hand to explain on the technology and service providers. Visitors will be able to board the new Digital Scotland Fibre Showcase. This is a unique vehicle specially adapted, featuring all equipment used in fibre broadband rollouts. Seen will be, not only the familiar green street-cabinets, but also some not often seen, such as how fibre-optic cables are ‘blown underground to be deployed.
Councillor Stephen McCabe, Leader of Inverclyde Council, said he hoped that a good turnout will be at the event, at The Cargill Centre, where residents and businesses can see the huge benefits fibre broadband will provide. Referring to the free event, Programme Director for Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband, Sara Budge, said she was excited the new Digital Scotland Fibre Showcase in the village will give residents detailed and interesting idea of how fibre broadband is exactly delivered and what it can provide benefits, the difference it an make, giving much more flexibility at work or in homes. She hoped residents will come to the event to understand the boost they can expect from a fast fibre connection when signing up to an ISP, she added.
