Free event by National Trust on secret messages through the ages

The National Trust is celebrating a special free event on coming Saturday, at the Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock. The event is celebrating the people who kept a look out for enemy attacks along the coast. It will also have activities like cracking a coded message, or try out the Morse code, or as a radio hand, or to try use the semiphone. Volunteers and staff of the Royal Signals Museum, Bradford, will join in the event. Activities will be held from 11am to 4pm, in the car park at Hive Beach.

The National Trust’s longest running fund raising campaign, which is highly successful, called Neptune celebrates its 50th anniversary and this event is part of it. The trust operates in West Dorset taking care of a wide range of sites of historical importance. They include sites used to warn of attack from the sea. Some such sites are- the Napoleonic signal station on summit of Golden Cap from late 18th century. A shutter system station on Lamberts Castle hill from the early 19th century. The Second World War radar stations on Ringstead and Stonebarrow and the Thorncombe Beacon at Eype. This free event will be an unique experience to learn about secret messages sent across long distances over the ages.

Free event Tigers in the Park has medieval theme

Leicester Tigers face Newcastle Falcons in a rugby fixture this Saturday, 19th September. Tigers in the Park is a free event for 5 hours of entertainment and activities, before the Kings of the North fixture at 3:00pm. The free event, fit for the whole family, begins at 10:00am and the medieval theme continues at Tigers in the Park, now in its 4th year. It is being organised by the club and being held at the Nelson Mandela Park opposite the club stadium.

The event this year features sword fighting, minstrel bands, falconry, archery and re-enactments. Taking part in the pre-match prince and princes parade, will be members of the Junior Tigers Club. The club mascot Sir Welford will also join in special knight attire, for the activities. The park will feature picnic areas, bars and food options, rugby activity area and player appearances. Also, find bhangra dancers, wheelchair rugby and face-painting. Get involved here with official charities of the club, at this free community event. Tigers were earlier too involved in a number of events. This free event is also part of a big year of historic celebrations in Leicester.
