Felixstowe is all set to stage one of its most popular events, the Art on the Prom, which is to take place on 6th September (Sunday). Mayor Doreen Savage will carry out the opening officially at 11:00am. The free event is expected to attract over 20,000 people here to Felixstowe in Suffolk, England. People will come to see and buy a variety of art, enjoy street entertainment, live music and take part in workshops in the event, now in its 12th year. Ruth Richmond’s Ocean Throne art installation on the beach is a highlight of the event this year.
Along the prom the event will feature artists’ stands. Visitors will get to see a wide range of paintings, photography, ceramics, glass, textiles and jewellery. Weavers and blacksmiths will be demonstrating their work. School children’s work will also be displayed. Tutti Frutti Voices will entertain along with jazz from around the world performed by Mambo Chutney. Others include Ipswich Hospital Band, the Farlingaye Acoustic Guitars, the Felixstowe Strings. Team Spirit cheerleaders and stilt walkers too will be there. Stephan Wyatt, the organizer of Art on the Prom, said the event was a non-profit one and aimed to promote a sense of pride and well-being in the community. Breheny and Jackmans are the main sponsors this year for the free event. Mary Wyatt said they were happy to give the public even more free workshops and exhibitions this year as it is creativity and fun for the whole family.
