Free exhibit of model railway during Stafford festival
Visitors to the arts festival at Stafford, running on Saturday and Sunday, can also have a close look at a large display at Stafford Railway Station. Visitors to the festival this weekend can go upstairs to the waiting room of the railway station to see the exhibit of a model railway, as Stafford Railway Circle is hosting this free event.
Encouraging visitors to come along to see the exhibit at the railway station, Roger Bateman, the spokesman, said it would be a great opportunity for people and a good venue to display the huge railway model. The free event this weekend will have arts and crafts workshops for free, which are open to people of all ages to join in, besides the numerous artists, musicians and dances who will be taking to the streets of Stafford to celebrate the festival.
New film hub launching free events at St. Albans
A new monthly film hub will start from next Thursday in St. Albans. It will be hosting the best of short films in the district set up by Ben Roper, who runs a film production company Rapture Films. The free event will be held on the first Thursday of every month. It will feature hand -picked short films of local film -makers and also the best short films from across the world in an hour of screening. Rapture will be hosting the event. Their own pop-up cinema The Nocturne will also be featured.
Ben Roper said he had many conversations with many talented local film makers and agreed the festival was excellent but happened only once a year. They have made sure there is lots of time for discussion and socialising around the screenings, he added. The hub will start the free event this Thursday (3rd September) from 7:00pm and the screenings at 8:30pm. The hub will be located at the Bakehouse, St. Albans.
Free events at Doors Open Day in Cumbernauld
For this year’s Doors Open Day event Churches, businesses, a museum and a fire-station across Cumbernauld will be opening their doors to the public. It will run on 12th and 13th September in Lanarkshire. Some 31 venues across North Lanarkshire will be opening their doors to behind-the-scene visits and tours. This year’s free event is being organised by the North and South Lanarkshire councils along with the Scottish Civic Trust.
Some of the region’s most interesting and unusual monuments and buildings will be open, over the run of the national event, to the public for viewing. Highlights of event include factories, a sheriff court and behind-the-scene tours of museums. This includes the AG Barr’s factory, the Church of the Holy Name, Scottish Episcopal Church and many other places elsewhere. Most of the locations are free to visit but some require pre-booking.
