Join the fun at the free events of the Frome Festival, Somerset, which is to start on 3rd July. The programme will host over 170 events and open studios of 66 craft-makers and artists available. The Hidden Garden trial will kick-off the festival with 37 private gardens open to the public over the first weekend. Some of Frome’s famous buildings will host exhibitions, such as St.John’s Church and the Black Swan Arts. Other events taking place include the play “Midsummer Dusk” at Dissenter’s Cemetery, with one more show on 11th July. Cooper Hall, Selwood Manor will offer two performances of Cosi fan Tutti opera and one more on 26th July to meet demand, which are among the 15 festive events sold out. The Frome Festival Quiz will be held on 9th July at the Frome Rugby Hall, by Paul Hewitt.
Martin Dimery, creative director, highlighted the number of free events. He said some 37 talks, walks and performances are free. Only 9 ask for donations. This is remarkable for a festival getting only the town council’s subsidy, he added. To keep the festival running, it’s dependant on volunteer stewards and fundraisers. Organisers are expecting a big turnout of visitors this time. Tickets for the free events and others are available at the Cheese and Grain box-office. Call by phone to 01373-455420, or visit website fromefestival.co.uk for details.
