June 23rd, 2015 by Sandy

The Last Night of the Proms is an event in its 14th year. It returns this year to Belfast, bringing together artists belonging to Northern Ireland and from across the world. The artists will be performing in a programme that mixes both contemporary and classical music and a few surprises also. The events of Last Night of the Proms will take place at the Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park in London, in Swansea and Glasgow, all on the same night of 12th September. The event will be broadcast live over BBC Radio-Ulster and also streamed online. The Red Button service on television will offer highlights later.

Claire McCollum and Noel Thompson will host The BBC Prom in the Park. The Belfast City Council will support the event. Alderman Guy Spencer, the Deputy Lord Mayor, said the wonderful backdrop of Titanic Slipways in Belfast will showcase the city as a cultural and tourism destination. BBC’s Northern Ireland director, Peter Johnson, said audiences both at the event and watching or listening at home, get a very special evening, celebrating the best in music making, showcasing local and international talents. Around 11,000 free tickets will be put in a draw to be allotted to audience. The closing date for applications is 15th July.
