The annual celebration of Bristol Harbourside festival, which is one of the biggest of its kind in South West, will be taking place from 17th July to 19th July. Now in its 44th year, the festival attracts an estimated 250,000 visitors and brings into the economy of the city some £12 million. What makes it more remarkable is that the festival is completely free and the city council funds it mostly.
This year, the event aims to be as green as a festival can be in all its management. It will focus on recycling and sustainability. Even the packaging and wrapping used by traders are urged to be environmentally friendly.
The Happy City project of Bristol city had held activities in the Canon Marsh Amphitheatre. This year it will team up with the city’s hub of music education, the Thekla and Bristol Plays Music, and the Happy City Area will be staged in the Mud Dock. Previously the Dance Village was staged in Millennium Square. It will be moved to the Cannon Marsh Amphitheatre, to make up South East’s biggest free dance event. The family arena will be hosted at the College Green with performance of Cirque Bijou circus company, running for the 12th year. There are many more free events lined up at the festival.
