Find free events at Isle of Ely Arts Festival
There are many free events planned at the Ely Arts Festival 2015. There will be plenty of music , theatre, poetry, children’s entertainment and much more at the festival, with Ely News as official partner. The festival is offering 33 days of entertainment across East Cambridgeshire. The festival in the historic region around the city of Ely, kicks-off on 10th June, Wednesday, and runs up to 12th July, coinciding with the Ely Folk Festival final day. Opening on Wednesday night, is The Gondoliers by Gilbert & Sullivan and continuing until Saturday.
Free events include the Gibson Recital Hall hosting King Ely’s Lunchtime Live, on 11th June at 1.20pm, having varied instrumental and vocal pieces. Haddenham Galleries will offer outdoor cinema, theatre, music visual arts and even free art workshops, music masterclasses, 2 youth showcase events, youth poetry slam and Field Theatre Company’s creative writing workshop. Free rides and cycling events coming to Runcorn and Widnes
A cycling project initiated by British Cycling and Halton Council will be offering free rides and events over the summer. Halton residents will be encouraged to ride on the saddle of cycles as the events will be for all abilities and ages and for families, to have fun and become fit. Rides start off at Widnes’ Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Runcorn’s Phoenix Park. For those who wish to take part, but currently don’t own a bicycle, they will be given one from the limited number of pool bikes. There’s a limited availability of adapted bikes too. But both these have to be booked before the events, even if some are free events. Thanks to funding from Halton, St. Helens and Warrington councils and the Department For Transport (DFT), many facilities and routes are being planned or created. Paxton House offers free concerts
‘Music at Paxton…Plus’ the one-hour free taster concerts are back again. Live Music Now Scotland and Paxton House (Berwick upon Tweed) will in conjunction present the free concerts starting on 14th June, Sunday, at 2:30PM. Phil Gault (baritone) and pianist Claire Haslin, the husband and wife duo, will perform the cycle song by Schumann- ‘Dichterliebe’ (A Poet’s Love). Phil Gault the Welsh baritone with a great voice, flexible rich tone and effortless characterisation, has done international performances. This is a great opportunity to enjoy with all in the family an afternoon of Opera, on a Sunday for free. You can have a Sunday lunch beforehand or have afterwards an afternoon tea.
