Free tasters at Evesham pop-up cycling event
Evesham will be getting a pop-up velodrome soon to host a cycling event of the StreetVelodrome Series, the world’s only pop-up cycling competition. It will be held on 23rd and 24th May, at the Evesham County Park, Worcestershire. Free taster sessions will be offered to anyone who wants to try it out, before the event. On 23rd and 24th May, participants of all ages will be given the exciting opportunity by the StreetVelodrome event to try out track-style cycling. The Series aims at finding UK’s best amateur riders with such competitive events across towns and cities.
All necessary equipment will be provided for free there. Coaching and guidance too will be offered by pro riders on hand. Helmets, padding and bikes will be provided to help participants of any age or size. No barriers to taking part here as the free event aims to encourage more people, especially children and women, to give a go at a cycle sport. Dave Thompson, the StreetVelodrome Series Pro Rider champion of 2014, has been confirmed for the event. Centre Manager, Maria Hughes, at Evesham Country Park, welcomed such a unique activity and hoped the local community will get involved in the fun free event.
Free events, tickets by Floating Cinema on tour
The Floating Cinema will be embarking on a tour of England through its canals and is its first venture outside the capital. It will begin and end in Bretford. The tour will feature free films and bank-side screenings, and also workshops and talks. The Bretford event will have film on-board screening, live music and sound workshops. The events are free and take place from 4th June, Thursday, to 6th June, Saturday. The tour will run from 4th June, Thursday, to 2nd August, Sunday.
Besides the launch of the tour at Brentford, the workshops will explore the area’s history and culture with Bentford’s archived footage. The sounds and noises of the area will be recorded and collected with help of Jann Seznec, the sound artist, for the area’s sound library. Laura Harford, Curator of Floating Cinema, said they are happy to take the first national tour with support of a new network of partners and funders. Laura Hertford hoped the events programme could inspire visitors to see the local waterways as a place for culture, combining leisure and recreation. Free to attend Northampton Music Festival is back
This year is going to be the 8th year of the Northampton Music Festival. This free to attend event is happening from 19th to 21st June and is sure to attract thousands of people to the town. The free event aims to raise the profile of Northampton town, bring the locals together and showcase local talent too.
Throughout the weekend, there will be pop-up events and gigs on the town centre streets and venues. On 21st June, Sunday, from noon, the Town Centre will take over with the main festival. This year 2 new stages are being added, including a Jazz Stage and Classic Stage. The free festival is run by not for profit community interest group- Music 365, in partnership with Northampton Borough Council, Northampton Town Centre BID and production partner Your Vision Events, supported by NMPAT & The University of Northampton, Carlsberg, Wilson Foundation and The Northamptonshire County Council.
