Free events to celebrate Dublin’s and Liverpool’s maritime heritage

Liverpool and Dublin will be celebrating its seafaring heritage in two free events. The International Mersey River Festival will be held from 5 June (Friday) to 7 June (Sunday). The Dublin River Festival will take place from 31 May (Sunday) to 1 June (Monday). The Mersey River Festival will have an Irish flavour, as the two cities pay tribute each other’s seafaring heritage and maritime links. As part of the Apprentice Ship Cup 2015, Liverpool will hosting at the city Irish Tall Ship apprentices. A music stage dedicated to Irish performances will be set-up. Teams taking part in the International Canoe Polo Tournament will be welcomed. There will be a host of other activities too.

A number of vessels lining up will include Tall Shops Morgenster, Bessie Ellen, Atyla, Pelican of London, Irene and Maybe, besides resident vessels May, Kathleen, Glacier and Zebu. Yachts and canal boats will be joining in. The Royal Navy will be showing their vessel a Sandown-Class Mine Counter-Measure ship at the Canning Dock to the public. The Royal Marines and Navy will display unarmed combat and weapons. There will be also helicopters and diving tanks. The Sea Cadets also will be performing. Return of popular activities include a model boat exhibition and artist Antony Brown’s exhibition. The annual raft race will be held again at the festival. Besides the free events, the first-ever Northern Boat Show will be also hosted at Liverpool.
