The official launch of the 2015 croquet season was done by the Bishop of Bath and Wells, who is also president of the Palace Croquet Club, when he teed off on the lawns of the medieval bishop’s palace in Wells (Canterbury). The Rt. Rev. Peter Hancock heads The Palace Croquet Club which has some 30 members and is looking to build on its strength. New members are being welcomed during this season that will run into autumn. Anybody who is interested in finding more about the game can have free taster sessions. The club members play on Wednesdays and Fridays, the ‘Golf Croquet’. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they play ‘Association Croquet’, which is considered by some as the real game. The bishop’s palace is quintessentially English and a perfect place for the game. Recently a council member of the Croquet Association, Brian Wilson from Cameron Peasedown Croquet Club, gave some helpful coaching.
