Free taster music workshop by Devizes Carnival organisers

April 28th, 2015 by Sandy

Organisers of the Devizes Carnival have a part in the Noise On The Street project. As part of it they will be holding a free taster workshop for young people who like to take part in a new street band for the Devizes event that will be held on 16th May, at the Crown Centre on St. John Street, in Devizes. The taster workshop will be held from 1:00PM to 5:30PM, is for persons aged between 12 years and 18 years and those who can play a musical instrument. After the free event, weekly sessions would be conducted. A new street band, it is hoped, will be created and that’ll be connect with Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts (DOCA).

The artistic director of DOCA, Jo Beal, said the project will explore street music and street band and gets inspiration from steel and marching bands of the world, especially by New Orleans. They are thrilled to be awarded funding from Wiltshire Music Connects for the Noise on the Street project, an exciting opportunity to play and explore new street music and encourage the young people to give it a go, Jo Beal added. At a date yet not fixed, Tim Hill, musician and composer, would hold a masterclass where older experienced musicians seen as band leaders, can take part. One such local band leader is being sought by DOCA to work with Tim Hill, who will be delivering Street Music workshops.
