Start of Tour de Yorkshire with free celebration

The Tour de Yorkshire will hit the county’s roads at the end of this month. To mark the event, a free celebration will take place on the streets of York on 30th April, Thursday, at the Eye of York. The Eve of Tour Celebration, which the City of York Council described as historic celebration plan, will be held in the evening between 6:00PM and 7:15PM of that day. The celebration will be hosted by OJ Borg, cycling TV presenter, with cycling celebrities, music performances and entertainment. Alistair Griffin will sing the official anthem he wrote for last year’s Grand Depart of the Tour de France.

The Tour de Yorkshire will be held on 1st May, Friday, starting from Bridlington and finishing in Scarborough, later in the day. Stage 2 is on 2nd May, Saturday, starting in Selby and finishing in York’s Knavesmire. Stage 3 will be on 3rd May, starting in Wakefield and ending in Roundhay Park in Leeds, on Sunday. No tickets required for visitors or residents to attend the free event and festivities of Eve of Tour Celebration. Director of communities and neighbourhoods, Sally Burns, of York Council, hoped a 1000 visitors will fill the Eye of York and the Tour de Yorkshire will build on the great economic benefits that Grand Depart brought to York.

Free taster sessions by Bristol Corinthan Yacht Club

Members of the public are being invited to join in for free taster sessions by the Bristol Corinthan Yacht Club, at their place on the Cheddar Reservoir in Somerset. Participants can try their hand at sailing here, as there will be free opportunities for people attending to get on the water, on 17th May, between Noon and 4:00pm. Bristol Corinthan Yacht Club will run free windsurf trainer session, tasters in club dinghies and run power-boat rides, all on the open day.

The event is part of the national campaign of RYA Push the Boat Out and the scheme offers nationwide opportunities for people to try out sailing and windsurfing tasters, with the aim to introduce newcomers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to the water and sports. Bookings for the free sessions are not required, but children aged under 8 will not be allowed on the water. Also those aged between 8 and 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. All those participating in the taster sessions just need to bring a change of clothes and a towel, and need to wear soft-soled shoes.
