The Canal and River Trust, in association with Drifters Waterway Holidays, will be organising the first National Go Boating Day, on 19th April, Sunday. The trust is a charity that looks after Britain’s waterways and is giving people the chance to find out what canal boating is like through this open day, where free tasters and trips on waterways are being offered too.
Chief Executive, Richard Perry, of Canal and River Trust, said many people start a lifelong passion when on a boating holiday. These free taster sessions will encourage more canal and river enthusiasts, he added hopefully. Chairman of Drifters Waterways Holidays, Tim Parker, explained how the wonderful 2,000 mile canal and river network of Britain is haven for wildlife and for travelling slowly. Staffordshire’s canals are popular and events will be taking place from 11am to 4pm in Brewood, Etruria (Stoke-on-Kent) and Great Haywood, along with eighteen other events happening on the rivers and canals across England and Wales.
