Free family tennis taster session at Lichfield
The Lichfield Friary Tennis Club will be hosting a Highland Spring Mini Tennis Open Day on 19th April. The tennis club on Darnford Lane in Lichfield, is situated facing the Lichfield Rugby Club (WS14 9RW). This club was selected to host the coming event by the Lawn-Tennis Association, which is open to both children and parents. According to a spokesperson, the free event is designed to help parents and children together to try out the sport of tennis, in a fun environment and relaxed atmosphere. Four sessions of 30 minutes each will be held throughout the morning session, starting at 9:30AM and everything is free, he mentioned. Metrolink trams offer free WiFi on-board
Free superfast WiFi has been rolled out on Metrolink trams which gives commuters travelling on-board the facility to surf the internet for free. Metrolink passengers in all 96 trams now join the 20 buses that run the free city centre service, the Metroshuttle, in being provided free WiFi service. The scheme for £1.7 million forms a part of Greater Manchester’s ambitious programme to become one of the top 20 digital city region worldwide.
Chairman of Transport for Greater Manchester committee, councillor Andrew Fender, remarked that Metrolink, the largest light rail network, is also the first light railway that is fully WiFi capable. Sajid Javid, Culture Secretary, observed that super-fast broadband and WiFi infrastructure in cities have to be in a position to meet the demands of a digital age.
This move comes as part of the scheme promoted by Manchester City Council with Transport for Greater Manchester and funds coming from BDUK (part of DCMS) worth £7.2 million. Free event to learn to play disc golf
A free open day is being held to learn disc golf, at the Garlic Farm, New Church, Isle of Wight, on 19th April, sundae, from 10am to 4pm. Everyone is welcome to the free event. Disc golf basically combines the traditional golf with popular Frisbee throwing. The aim is to shoot into a basket the thrown disc, taking the fewest shots at it, possible. Some discs are specially designed to curve in or fly straight while in flight. They are smaller and heavier than the typical toy Frisbee. The free event is being organised as part of the campaign, Isle Be Active, by the Sports Unit of the Isle of Wight Council, supported by Sport England and also the My Life a Full Life scheme. The British Disc Golf Association says it is an international sport, with thousands of disc golf courses found around the world. All are welcome to the free event of disc golf.
