Greenwich Theatre offers free tickets for new New Year show
A late Christmas gift is being offered by the Greenwich Theatre, Crooms Hill, Greenwich, for the New Year! 150 persons will get free tickets for a new show to be hosted in the New Year, from January 22nd to 24th. ‘Broke’ is the play that’s based on individuals’ experiences of money and how to budget. It’s also about upbringing and when young what we are taught about money. The tickets are being provided to people with low incomes, to help them see the show, which uses verbatim accounts of people who are struggling to live. The verbatim reports were sourced from West Yorkshire, by the production company Paper Bird, by talking to people of the Salvation Army and the food banks. This is the first part of the trilogy they are developing.
Jemma McDowell, the artistic director who is also in the cast, says the production is about personal experiences of money, is a lot physical and very visual. The show is about a single mother, about national debt, on how people cannot keep their hobbies or interests, or some who can’t feed their children, he said. Artistic and executive director James Hddrell said that knowing this could be one of the toughest times, they programmed the show just after Christmas. They have bought tickets for 150 people who are getting government benefits. The free tickets will be given on a first come, first served basis and only a donation of £3 will be asked for the theatre, he added. It can be availed by calling on phone 020-8858-7755 (the box-office), or visiting the theatre at Crooms Hill, Greenwich.
