Free train tickets on East Midlands Trains for military personnel and veterans

November 4th, 2014 by Sandy

To commemorate the approaching Remembrance Day, complimentary train travel on East Midlands Trains will be offered to serving armed forces personnel or veterans who would be attending the Poppy Days evens to be held in several cities across the UK.

Organised by the Royal British Legion, the Poppy Days is celebrated on 30th October in London and Plymouth and on 6th November in Bristol and Manchester. From the 3rd to 11th November the train carriage will have decorative poppies attached and a wartime recipe, “trench cake”, will be given away to first-class passengers travelling on the train service.

Martin Griffiths, chief executive of the Stagecoach Group that owns the train operating company, said they support the cause by offering every year free transport for those gathering in cities for Poppy Day events. He also said some of their staff have served the military and have family and friends still serving. So by arranging these events, they play a part in remembering and paying tribute for the sacrifice made by service personnel around the world, he added. Passengers eligible for free tickets must be either in uniform or possess valid forces or Legion ID.
